Myrr: A World on the Brink
Hey everyone!
The rewrite is in full swing, and I’m thrilled to say I’m nearing the end of Act 1 with the new setting fully integrated. Today, I’m excited to finally unveil the world behind the story. Meet Myrr—a continent brimming with conflict, ambition, and ancient power. The map below shows the political fault lines that will shape the journey ahead.
Let’s break it down.
👑 The Viremar Empire — A Crown Fractured
This is where our story begins. Both Caelen, our resurrected outcast, and Theron, a soldier torn by loyalty, hail from the heartlands of Viremar. Once united, the empire is now splintered. With Emperor Aldric dead, his three children, Serana, Perric, and Herun Velcair, each claim the imperial throne. Though the empire still stands, it’s held together by fraying loyalties and looming civil war.
You’ll notice the empire is split into three power blocs, each ruled by one of the heirs. The struggle for succession is central to the plot, and the lines on the map mark the fragile balance of power.
🛡️ The Marks — Frontier Kingdoms
Surrounding the Viremar Crownlands are the Marks, autonomous border realms led by powerful Margraves (or Marklords). These frontier vassal-states are tasked with defending the empire’s outer edges. Some are loyal. Some… less so.
The most powerful of them all is the Eastern Mark, ruled by the iron-willed Margrave Voss, whose daughter Alara becomes our third point-of-view character. His seat lies upon ancient ruins, and his ambition may tip the balance of the empire.
🔥 The Illuminate States — Faith, Fire, and Inquisition
In the south, you’ll see the Ember States, the religious heart of Viremar and cradle of the Illuminate Inquisition, a zealous military order devoted to purging heresy. They are the flame that gives the empire purpose… and the pyre upon which many have burned. Their ideology bleeds into politics, and their enemies often find themselves labeled as heretics.
❄️ The Skaeldbourne — Northborn Raiders
To the far north lie the Skaeldbourne, raiders whispered to be Voidtouched, their blood mingled with the darkness that seeps in from beyond. They are more than mere invaders, they are omens.
🐎 The Khandarite — Desert Lords and Steppe Kings
To the south, you'll find the Khandarite, a powerful kingdom inspired by Moorish sultanates and steppe khanates. Though they often clash with Viremar, they are not simply warlords, they play the long game, shifting between trade, raiding, and political maneuvering.
🔮 The Ithraleoi Empire — The Other Claim
Far to the east lies the Ithraleoi Empire, rival to Viremar. Long ago, a civilization known as Osteria ruled much of Myrr. Now, two powers claim its legacy: Viremar, through the Ember Church, and Ithraleon, through their heretical doctrine known as the Silent Flame. Between them lies not just a cold war of ideology, but of inheritance, identity, and divine right.
🌲 The Clans and Tribes — Spirits of the Wild
Scattered across Myrr are the remnants of the old world, tribes and clans who resist the empire’s expansion. The most powerful of these is the Calrathi Confederation, druids, mystics, and warriors who follow the ancient Myyric Faith. Our fourth POV, Ysra, emerges from these wild eastern lands, where the borders of civilization and myth blur.
⚔️ Myrr — A Continent on the Brink
Myrr is not a setting of passive kingdoms and quiet valleys, it’s a political powder keg. Old empires clash. Faith burns hot. Ancient forces stir beneath the surface. And Caelen... he’s the match.
On release, you’ll find a full geographical map included in the book, so you can follow every march, betrayal, and revelation as our protagonists carve their paths across Myrr.
That’s all for now—thanks for coming along for the journey. I can’t wait to show you what’s next.
